Joe Burkhardt
Joe will be joining First United Methodist Church of Akron July 1, 2023 as lead pastor. Pastor Joe is also the lead pastor at Wedgewood United Methodist Church. He is married to his wife, Jeanette, and has seven children. Joe recently earned his Doctor of Ministry degree from Ashland University.
Pastor Joe's Theology
My theology/praxis is Wesleyan. I am committed to pursuing the fullness of Christ in me, and the furtherance of Christ's kingdom in the world -- a flourishing peace with justice for all people--through Wesleyan means of grace (disciplines), community engagement and social holiness. My faith is based in scripture, informed by historical and global Christian doctrine, reason, and my (and other's) personal experiences of God. Personal holiness and social action are the fruits of full salvation, the evidence of authentic conversion from sin to the way of Christ.

Ja’Alycia will be joining First United Methodist Church and Wedgewood UMC as the associate pastor beginning in July 1, 2023. She is joined by her husband Randale and their three children.

What do you do for fun? Swim, Fish, Boat and Garden.
What is your favorite part about your job? The Choir. I love working with them and producing the music.
What has God been teaching you lately? Patience. I hope.
What was your first job? High School Band director.

What was your first job? At Apples Grocery Store. Then I went into the Army in 1977.
